Held at the University of Vermont, Burlington. For instrumentalists and vocalists.
Price: $2,650 all-inclusive — all workshops, a private room, and three meals a day for seven nights. Travel not included.
Off-campus option: $1,525 (includes lunches and a parking permit)
To hold a place: $250 deposit, fully refundable until April 1, 2027
The Value of Jazz Camp's Immersive Learning
RBH Jazz Camp: Vermont provides a unique immersive experience. Participants learn from world-renowned faculty–working jazz musicians of the first order, led by Roni Ben-Hur–while also building lasting relationships with them and each other, elements key to the Jazz art form. Instrumentalists are placed in bands, overseen by a star faculty band leader, with whom they practice throughout the week culminating in a final performance for the community before the week's end. Vocalists join a dedicated vocal program, working daily with faculty on phrasing, improvisation, and repertoire, and building arrangements with a live rhythm section toward their own final performance. Band leaders and vocal faculty–both accomplished performers and dedicated educators–also offer personal coaching and instruction tailored to each participant's needs, as well as nightly performances. This weeklong intensive is designed to promote rapid-paced skill development with an incredibly supportive community of people who love to learn, and most importantly, who deeply love music.
Programs and Activities
Programs and activities include:
• Daily ensemble workshops in Jazz, Latin Jazz and Samba Jazz
• Daily vocal workshops
• Daily instrument-specific masterclasses, including a rhythm section workshop for vocalists
• Evening performances by faculty
• Nightly jam sessions
• Ensemble levels defined and published in advance, so you know what you are signing up for before you arrive
• Vocal workshops in small groups
• An evening downtown, when we all skip the dining hall and eat in Burlington
• Preparatory materials for anyone newer to this music
During spare time, participants may enjoy exploring nearby nature paths, lakes and beaches, and visits to town to enjoy local eateries and shopping
Daily Schedule
The 2027 schedule will be posted once it is finalized. Below is what a typical day looks like:
Instrumentalists:
9-10am: Jazz Ensemble
10-11: Latin Jazz Ensemble
11am-12pm: Samba Jazz Ensemble
12-1: LUNCH
1-2pm: Blues Ensemble
2:15-3:45: Instrumental Masterclasses (piano, reeds, drums, bass and guitar)
3:45-5:30: Rest Hour/Opportunity to explore the beautiful campus grounds and town
5:30-7: DINNER
8pm: Faculty Concert (rotation of performances by the jazz masters)
9pm-12am: Jam Session (for all participants and faculty)
Vocalists:
9–9:30am: Vocal warmups
9:30am–12pm: Group work on topics including: form, phrasing, improvisation, grooves
12–1pm: LUNCH
1–2pm: Improv class
2–5pm: Rhythm section workshop for all vocalists–work on tunes with a rhythm section and build arrangements for final performance
5:30–7: DINNER
8pm: Faculty Concert (rotation of performances by the jazz masters)
9pm–12am: Jam Session (for all participants and faculty)
2027 Tuition
This all-inclusive experience is $2,650, covering all workshops, a private room w/ private bathroom, and 3 meals a day for the full seven nights.
Dietary accommodations can be arranged. Transportation to and from jazz camp is the participant’s responsibility.
Option to secure your own accommodations off-campus for a reduced price of $1,525.
Holding a Place | Cancellation Policy
To hold your place:
When you are ready to hold your place, send $250 via your preferred method of payment. That $250 is fully refundable right up to April 1, 2027 so there is no risk in doing it early. A deposit of an additional $800 follows on February 1, 2027 and the balance is due by June 1, 2027.
If you need to cancel:
- By April 1, you will receive a full refund (including the $250 hold money).
- By May 15, 50% refund.
- By June 15, 25% refund.
After June 15, 2027 I am not able to offer a refund.
And if I (Roni) ever have to cancel the camp, you will receive a 100% refund.
UVM's Facilities
Accommodations for RBH Jazz Camp Vermont include air conditioned private rooms, most with a private bathroom. The classrooms where participants will spend their days studying are spacious and fully equipped for our various sessions. Nightly jam sessions and faculty performances will take place in our dorm building, making it easy for folks to pop in and out throughout the evening as they wish.
